SD card for storage?

$

Sorry if this has been asked here before, I did a search but couldn't find anything.

I've recently set up a Pi with HifiBerry Digi + Pro, running PcP. All works fine and I am happy so far. My question is, rather than play local FLAC files from an external USB drive, is it possible to save them on the same micro SD as the OS and stiil be able to play them? If so, how would I copy them on to the card?

I'm very new to this, but loving it so far!

Thanks

Sample Rate Problem

I'm running squeezelite under Ubuntu on an ODriod N2. It works great with one exception: The sample rate seems to be limited to 48kHz. I've tried passing "-r 192000" as an option, and when playing a 96kHz file I see output like:

[01:01:38.771803] stream_thread:176 headers: len: 118
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Logitech Media Server (7.9.2 - 1539967036)

[01:01:39.030006] alsa_open:485 buffer: 40 period: 4 -> buffer size: 3840 period size: 960

So that seems like it is saying it's outputting at 96kHz. But the DAC (a Schiit Yggdrasil) indicates that it's only receiving 48kHz. If I instead use a Logitech transporter into the same DAC (synchronized even), I see 96kHz. Of course, the ODroid is connected via USB whereas the Transporter is connected by AES/EBU. But I'm guessing that is not the problem.

Thanks for any ideas,
Riki

Mycroft and Squeezelite

First: Thanks to all you people allowing me to have such a great music experience in my home based on Free Software! So flawless that I never needed to register in this forum - but now I am puzzled...

I have been running a multi-room system (mostly Rasp3b with USB-Soundcard and speaker) merged with my OpenHAB - and I really like it. So the next step for me is to integrate proper VoiceAI into this and with Mycroft.ai there is a project I like. So, my plan is to simply add microphones to the existing RasPis + speaker and run mycroft + squeezelite on them.

Technically I thought it might be wise to first install mycroft using the PiCroft image on the RasPi, apt-get install squeezelite and be done. But: No matter how I try to specify the squeezelite -o - while running squeezelite (which works fine) I cannot get Mycroft to talk to me. Once I kill squeezelite again, some stacked messages from Mycroft come through. I have read a bit about problems with dmix on RasPi, but to be honest I am technically quite a noob and don't really understand what the problem is... It looks like Mycroft listens, but cannot speak while squeezelite is running.

I am thankful for any help to solve this!

Security tips for NAS owners

I'm concerned about running software on my NAS that could expose my data to the outside world.

I have not exposed any additional ports on my router, nor really done much beyond the default settings.

Once I did notice what appeared to be someone pausing/playing my music.

I have since put a password on my LMS interface (which is a PITA in some contexts).

Any suggestions on what to check for and where, in terms of having a good setup?

rpi3 + digione : squeezebox error

Hello,

I'm a bit stuck with this issue, and I don't really understand how to solve it...
I have a raspberry3+ with a digione card, and all was perfect.

I made an update, or several, from the piCorePlayer interface, and now I face the issue that there's nothing working anymore : even squeezelite refuses to start now !
I checked this https://forums.slimdevices.com/showt...is-not-running and https://forums.slimdevices.com/showt...o-Allo-DigiOne, but could not make it work again.

I think that the issue comes from a missing driver, but I cannot figure how to install it...
In the output, I had hw:CARD=sndallodigione, but it is not listed in the available hardware :

Could you tell me how to fix this issue ?

If you think this issue might come from elsewhere, or if you need logs or so, don't hesitate to ask, I'm a bit lost right now...

Thanks !

Raspberry Pi Newbie Questions

Hi,
I'm a long time squeezebox user but have never toyed with any Raspberry Pi kit. I have a project in mind where I want to create a squeezebox radio type of player and I think the RPi might be suitable. I have a few questions, I wonder if you guys would be able to point me in the right direction...

- can the Rpi support simple two line type OLED displays?
- can rotary controls and buttons be supported?
- ideally I'd like to replicate the SB classic type of display, so I would use the rotary controls to navigate the menus and push to select the options
- ideally no buttons, but I might need them to navigate backwards etc, depends what the rotary push selectors can do.
- has anyone implemented this type of interface already?
- is the IR integrated?
- can PCP connect to mysqueezebox?
- Can I add an amp board to RPi
- can I run PCP and LMS all on one RPi, and have all my music on the same SD card?
- Finally, how easy is it to do this, I'm more than able with a soldering iron, but do I need to be able to program/modify code as well?

Sorry so many questions, hopefully someone will be kind enough to point me in the right direction.

Thanks

How to reduce audio latency

$

I have a Pi4 with a HiFiBerry DAC+ ADC Card and Amp60 on top.

Plays really nicely using piCorePlayer which is simple and clever. However using this to output my TV in the Kitchen to ceiling speakers there is a 6 second delay in the sound compared to the TV video.
I am using pcp-streamer to send the audio to the localhost LMS.

Is this sort of latency to be expected?
Is there a way to improve the latency

PiCore Player setup

I need some help! I have been trying to set up 2 players using Pi4, HiFiBerry, PiCore player, LMS & Squeezer with analog output to my receiver. These are to replace my Duets. LMS and music files are located on my computer.

The players are recognized by LMS and I can select music to play using Squeezer, but I have the following issues:

1. No sound out of the player.
2. If pause is selected, the track starts over from the beginning without pausing
3. I am unable to set up WiFi.

I have tried to set this up numerous times now without success. Can someone walk me thru this.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot in advance

Jivelite install in RPi3b, Raspbian Jessie....ish.

Running squeezelite on RasPi3b running standard rasbpian jessie with desktop (...ish. Requires explanation)
The "ish"part is I am using the specific raspbian image from the manufacturer of my 3.5in tft screen -Kuman. I have never gotten anything else to work with the screen attached.
I have squeezelite installed, works fine, but I would like to get jivelite installed. Can anyone point me to a decent command line walkthrough for installing jivelite.

Option2: pointers or Howtos on installing drivers for a "non-standard/not well supported" 3.5 touchscreen in piCorePlayer. (Actually my first preference...really like piCorePlayer.

wpa_supplicant wifi setup with spces in SSID and pass?

Hi all,

I'm trying to setup a Raspberry Pi Zero W with PcP, but fail at connecting to my wifi (basically failing at step #1...)

As stated in the howto; the wpa-supplicant file doesn't play nice with spaces and special characters, but doesn't say how to go about it. What format do I need to enter the details, preferably without changing the SSIDs and passwords of the Wifi networks.

Thanks, Nelis

Miniboss Player Plus?

$

Essentially I'm looking for an audio solution that's not to expensive to go in a conservatory, something based on Pi Zero W and PiCorePlayer would seem to fit the bill.

While looking for options (many of which seem to be out of stock) I found this : https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/singl...z-p-13744.html

A bit more than I wanted to pay but it looks a decent bit of kit, just throw in some speakers and you're away.

Has anyone tried one of these in an LMS ecosystem?

It talks about Volumio in the link but it's just a Pi Zero, a DAC and an amp right? So I assume it would be straightforward to drop PiCorePlayer on there?

Maybe one concern is they say Pi Zero, not Pi Zero W, it's not clear to me how this is a network player.

Any idea for a hardware volume control for a piCorePlayer installation?

Which automation are you using? Please tell me Apple HomeKit?

What about the the Hue dimmer switch https://www.apple.com/ie/shop/produc...-dimmer-switch ?

Four buttons - on louder - quieter - off ?

Burning Pi Image

Hi folks

Bear with me I am A Ras Pi Newbie.Just Trying to burn image on micro SD Card.

Iam using Windows 10 PLUS Win32 disk imager. Ive downloaded pi ver. 6. There are 2 Files.
1. Pi player 6.1.0 (about 61KB)
2. Pi player 6.1.0IG MD5 .img (1KB) (Opens in Notepad)

may sound a silly question to you (but not me) But do I have to burn 2 files..? Or just one ..?

Also the Hash MD5 Looks different in my Win32 Imager. It may just be an older version on the "How to" Pi site.

The Trouble with Tribbles (aka Thin Clients)

I need to step away from ebay. The monitor just arrived today, it's a Samsung TC222W with built-in thin client. Not pictured is a Wyse 5070 currently running as my home file server and LMS server and a Wyse 3040 (same as the small ones on the left) running as my main home router. Both the server and router are running Alpine Linux and are, without a doubt, the best hardware I've had in these roles to date. Very happy with them.

As far as the rest of the group pictured, the 4 3030's (center right) the 3030lt (center left) and the 3 3040's (left) I've reloaded with Alpine for testing. The 5 M300's were the armel boxes I got for $10 a piece and I sort of gave up on after having some random file corruption that I never resolved.

Some of these will be running squeezelite I'm sure so I don't feel like this is completely off topic.
