Hi there,
I am new to the forum but was told by Nads on the UK What Hifi forums that you were the guys to ask about my not so little problem, so here goes:
I purchased a brand new QNAP TS-412 TurboNAS 8TB to store and serve my music which is a mixture of FLAC and apple lossless files, approx 400 albums in total. The reason that I went for the QNAP NAS is because one of its main selling points is that it can run the Logitech Media Sever, (LMS) within its own operating system, meaning that I can turn off my PC when I am not using it. Anyway, I plugged the NAS in, (Ethernet LAN through a Gigabit switch), and went through the set up procedures, duly updating the NAS firmware to version 3.8.1. Following this I installed the ARM version of LMS, (7.7.2), using the QPKG centre plugin installer. I had to manually install LMS but the file came directly from QNAP's QPKG webpage depository.
I have duly set up the LMS and scanned my music, all good so far, and if I access the LMS which is installed on my NAS using my PC via the web browser all seems. Albums, artwork etc. are all there and quickly accessible. However, when it comes to trying to access my music using my iPad and iPeng things begin to go wrong. The first thing is the amount of time that it takes to load my music lists, artwork etc. through iPeng on to my iPad, upwards of 5 minutes and the artwork is all still missing and some albums have no music inside their folders, and some albums won't play. I have flushed the cache and everything but still no joy. Previously when using a PC this has all been instantaneous through iPeng. I have checked the CPU usage of the NAS and it is regularly jumping up to 100% and hanging around that level.
Does anybody have any experience with this issue and how to solve it as I am at my wits end? Should I be leaving something to cache that I am unaware of?
Thanks in advance. Gazzip
