bbc sounds to replace iplayer

and this comment from the bbc blog doesn't inspire confidence in the long term:
"BBC Sounds will eventually replace BBC iPlayer Radio but not until we’ve added some key bits of functionality (including downloads and schedules, which have asked after) so you can keep using BBC iPlayer Radio to listen to downloaded programmes until we add download functionality to the BBC Sounds app"

will this mean the eventual end to iplayer via our squeezeboxes?
